Board

Our association is managed by a board that is chosen by the members. At the moment the board consists of seven members.

Coert Peeters

Secretary

Coert Peeters was installed as a board member at the General Assembly of the Society in July 2021. Coert has been active in walking circles for quite some time. He completed the Nijmegen Four Days Marches 20 times (including the 4 x 55 km at the 100th edition). Next tot hat, he completed a large number or Long Distance Walks and 50-mile Kennedy-marches. He was on the governing board of the walking society sv de LAT, over which he presided the last 4 years. For the ‘Golden Cross Bearers’, he took the initiative for the reunions in Almere (2012) and Enkhuizen (2016). Since the Nijmegen 2019 edition, Coert volunteers for the Executive Committee as a member of the Controllers Department.

Frans Leijtens

Chairman

My name is Frans Leijtens and I have been a board member since 2003. I started walking the Four Days Marches when I was 12, obtained my Gold Medal in 1998 and have only skipped the 2002 edition. I have been walking since I was six years old. I prefer race walking events over long distances (from 50 miles to 24 hours) or night walks, but also don't mind walking multiple day walks in the Netherlands and abroad. I am an officer in the Royal Netherlands Air Force and I try to get my Air Force colleagues to take up walking. Next to my role of secretary for the association, I update our website on a regular basis.

Ed Hendriks

Treasurer

I am Ed Hendriks and since 2018 I act as treasurer. At younger age and when I was a student, I participated in the Four Days Marches several times. In 1979 I was asked as sports physician to be part of the medical team of the Four Days Marches. Later I was the head of that medical team until 1999. Since 2000 I walk the Four Days Marches every year and obtained my Gold Medal. I was also medical supervisor and participant of the Walk Challenges in China and Israel. I am medical advisor of the „Via Vierdaagse“ since the beginning of this initiative. My experience as a member of the board has started in my studentship, including several assignments as treasurer.

Harry van Dijk

Member administrator

My name is Harry van Dijk, born and raised in Helmond. I started walking in the early eighties with the Kennedy March of Someren and the 2 Days of Diekirch. This was followed by various walking tours at home and abroad with my wife, including many IML tours. During the 4days of Castlebar we both became European walkers.
In 1988 I participated for the first time in the Nijmegen 4Daagse. After 2 years my wife was also infected with the 4-day virus and the two of us went together. In mid-2018 I started taking care of the membership administration. During the meeting of 19 July 2020 I was elected as 1st secretary / member administrator.
During my career I have held various positions within the automotive industry. I have been retired since February 2020.
In addition to my work for the Golden Cross bearers, I am a volunteer at Victim Support Netherlands for more than 4 years.

Rino Hamelink

Board member

My name is Rino Hamelink. Since I was borne in Nijmegen, I have been walking the Nijmegen Marches since I was twelve. This year, I hope to complete my 35th Nijmegen Marches. I do not just walk Nijmegen, but also many other events. These include the local evening four days marches with my 5 year old daughter, but alos walks up to 160 km. And I litterally walk from here to Tokyo, since I take part in many IML-events. Although I am a new committee member, I have been a volunteer within the walking community for many years now, as an events advisor and as a committee member for the region Brabant-Zeeland. In my daily life I used to be a supervisor for many restaurants, but at the moment I am looking for a new challenge.

Jaimy Pieterson

Board member

My name is Jaimy Pieterson and I am a board member of the association since April 2022. In 2009 I already finished the Nijmegen Four Days Marches, while I was still too young to register (I really couldn't wait). The following year I was 11 and I obtained my first Four Days Marches cross. In 2019 I walked for the tenth time and I was allowed to call myself bearer of the Golden Cross. I work as a social worker at Dutch Defense and hope to be able to walk the Four Days Marches as a soldier in the near future.
