Our Association
Was founded in 1951 for those having successfully completed the 4Days Marches 10 times or more. The association was named after the award each walker receives when having completed the 4Days Marches for the tenth time: the precious Gold Medal. The medal is one of the Royal Netherlands’ official decorations. The Association of Gold Medallists is a member of the KWBN (Royal Dutch Walking Association) and consists of over 3.400 members in the Netherlands and abroad.
What do we do?
The association naturally looks after the interests of its members. We keep a close watch on all developments concerning the 4Days Marches and we frequently communicate with the 4Days Marches organisation. As a large group of participants we serve as an important sounding board. For instance, in the past we have given advice on route changes, changes to the start location and the creation of the restriction protocol.
We also organise events: an exclusive members’ meeting on the Monday preceding the 4Days Marches, with a speech by the chairman of the 4Days Marches organisation, meeting points during the marches, an annual reunion in September and one to two ‘Powered by GKD’ walks per year. Next to that we issue magazine GOUD! with unique background stories and the latest news on the 4Days Marches, written in English for our English speaking members.
Last but not least, we organise attractive extra’s for our members, such as a free lustrum award that you can order for every lustrum edition and a unique badge for new member to put on a backpack. Below you can read more about the extra’s our members receive through the KWBN (Royal Dutch Walking Association).
